Having a hard time shutting down negative thoughts while bowling? Consider using a thought-stopping technique.
Thought-stopping is a type of visualization exercise to help you actively put an end to negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. It is essentially a two-step process. You first visualize something to call attention to the act of stopping, and then you use a pre-determined thought or idea to replace the negative thinking.
For example, when you catch yourself thinking negatively, you could:
- Visualize a referee throwing a flag or blowing a whistle.
- Say, “I’ve got this!” while visualizing yourself executing flawlessly.
