Maintaining an optimum level of intensity throughout a tournament block is a key element of optimizing your performance. Bowlers who experience changes in their intensity level during competition can use some simple tricks to help manage that. If you want to start stronger, or be more consistent throughout a tournament block, use these tips to help you get to and stay at your optimum intensity:
- Listen to music (or sing it in your head): If you’re extra nervous or amped up, listen to something soothing. If you’re a little flat, listen to something more up-tempo.
- Use your breathing: Long, slow breaths can calm you down, but you can also choose slightly shorter, shallower breaths to get you into a more intense mode.
- Adjust your warm-up: Pace your warm-up routine, from tying your shoes to performing dynamic stretches, to match your desired intensity level.
