While some bowlers struggle to generate speed, many bowlers have the opposite problem. If a bowler’s speed is too high relative to their rev rate, it can cause issues with creating enough hook and entry angle. It can often be easier to slow down than to significantly increase rev rate, so try these tips to help bring your ball speed down:
- Shift your weight back onto your heels in the stance. This should naturally help you to walk slower.
- Try starting closer to the foul line. This shortens your steps to slow you down. Be sure to try this in practice first to make sure you don’t foul.
- Lower your backswing by shortening your pushaway and ensuring that you are not lifting the ball above your head in the backswing.
