Athletes in all sports use training cycles to be at their best in key moments of the year. Bowlers can adopt some of these key concepts to better prepare for important tournaments on their calendars:
- Training load: Bowlers should increase their practice four to six weeks before an event, in order to get their game as sharp as possible ahead of the tournament.
- Tactical and mental training: Many bowlers focus mostly on physical game issues, but they should spend the last couple of weeks before an event ironing out their mental tools and lane play strategies and skills.
- Rest up: The last week before an important tournament should feature the least amount of practice, so your mind and body are in the best shape possible ahead of the competition.
