Motiv’s new high performance ball is one of the best rolling balls we have thrown from Motiv. The new Impulse V2 core has a shape similar to the original Impulse core used in the Primal Impulse. The core has been manipulated to lower the RG while keeping the five inch flare potential. The Primal Scream covers this weight block with a new coverstock called Whiplash Solid Reactive. This cover provides the most continuous motion we have seen out of a Motiv bowling ball.

The reaction this ball gave us was a pretty remarkable look on the medium test pattern. All three testers were able to play in their comfort zones on this pattern. What was impressive was that during the transition, as...

Performance Ratings

NameValueComments
Torque
(1-10)
7.5
The Primal Scream will scream off the breakpoint. This ball not only went left when it exited the pattern, it just kept on going.
Length
(1-25)
14
This ball is surprisingly clean through the front for a solid resin ball at a sanded finish. Those looking for more length can add polish.
Back End
(1-20)
17
The back end is up there with any other ball in Motiv’s history. We do not know if it is just the color, but we could easily see the Primal Scream cover some boards in the last fifteen feet.
Total Hook
(1-100)
52
The big back end move pushes the total hook rating up. For bowlers wanting to see even more hook from this ball, lower the finish to 1000 or 2000 wet sand.

Strengths: Motiv adds a new reaction shape to their line with the Primal Scream. We have not seen a Motiv solid provide this much continuation from breakpoint to pin deck.

Weaknesses: There are few things to keep the Primal Scream from being thrown. Super heavy oil or trying to throw it on dead dry lanes are the only conditions which might set the Primal Scream up to fail.

Overall Summary: The Primal Scream is the must have ball for Motiv fans or bowlers looking for a strong, continuous solid ball for use on medium to heavy oil patterns. The continuation this ball has through the entire lane is the big selling point.
