The Game Breaker 4 Pearl marks the return of the Enhanced V2 core shape to the Ebonite line. While the last Game Breaker we saw used a new asymmetrical design, this release goes back to the low RG symmetrical core shape that is synonymous with the Game Breaker nameplate. The GB4 Pearl uses the same GB 12.0 Pearl coverstock as the Game Breaker Asym, giving us a direct comparison of the effect the core shape has on the ball. This ball is smoother and earlier than the Asym, and it took to surface changes very well, making it versatile enough for use on all four of our test patterns.
Stroker had a very good reaction with the Game Breaker 4 Pearl on the medium oil test pattern. The ball picked up in the midlane and had plenty of continuation through the pins. He could either play straighter or open up his angles more than the Polaris let him on this pattern. In transition, the ball was predictable and continuous when he did start moving inside, and he never had to change away from the box finish. He felt like he had more control throughout the session than with the Game Breaker Asym. Stroker had the best reaction out of the three testers on the dry pattern. The box finish provided him with plenty of length to keep the ball from hooking early, and it only got better as the pattern broke down. After reactive balls took some oil off the lane, he could move inside and belly the ball, and if urethane was being used by other bowlers, he could stay outside and use the added hold from the carrydown. Either way, he had no trouble getting the GB4 Pearl through the pins and he never had to change surfaces for this pattern. The box finish also provided Stroker with a pretty good reaction on the fresh sport pattern. He could get to the pocket pretty easily, but it wouldn’t be his first choice. Sanding the ball to 3000...
