The Zen U provides some familiar imagery for 900 Global fans while also introducing some brand-new elements to their product line. It uses the new Meditate LD Symmetric core, which has the same core geometry from previous Zen bowling balls, but with a lower density to raise the RG to 2.56″ and reduce the differential to 0.027″. At the shinier surface, Cranker could stand much farther outside and use tighter angles through the front. With plenty of hold, he liked this reaction as well, but he preferred the box finish to play more in his comfort zone farther inside. Cranker’s high rev rate matched up very well with this ball on the medium pattern. The dull cover got the ball into a roll in the midlane and it was much more continuous at the back end than traditional urethane. He had plenty of control of the breakpoint, which allowed him to start in the track where Stroker usually plays this pattern. He could be aggressive with his release and the ball rolled...
